He smiled softly as he pulled her closer to his chest.
“So what did you want to do today? I have all afternoon, so we can do anything you want.” he told her, just glad to spend time with her.
“Oh Eric,” she breathed, “It doesn’t matter. I could just spend the whole day in your arms and be perfectly happy.” Her heart pounded in her chest as he held her close. It excited her to be so close to the man she cared so much about.
He smiled, sitting down in the warm sand, pulling her onto his lap. He kissed her gently, but longer than he had been able to in what seemed like years. Pulling back, he kissed her nose sweetly before hugging her close.
“My father is having a ball in a few days, would you do me the honor of attending it?” He asked her hopefully, secretly wanting her to say yes. Balls were always boring evenings full of dancing with girls who only wanted the title. If Ariel was there, at least he would have a good time.

He smiled, laughing slightly. Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her close. “Yeah, he’s nice. Great actually, I’ve had him since I was little. He was a fourth birthday present from my father.” He thought back to that day, to see a huge box with a ribbon waiting at the foot of his bed. He’d opened it to see Max sitting there, curled up and sleeping in a ball.

Ariel was beyond excited today. Not only was she going to see Eric, but she had managed to convince her father that she was going exploring and would be gone for quite some time. She wanted to spend every moment with Eric.
When she had made it to the beach, she began skipping along. She was in such a great mood today, that the pain was negligible compared to her happiness. She spotted Eric at the other end of the beach and took off at a dead run.
“Eric! ERIC!!”
Hearing his name, he turned around to see Ariel bounding toward him. He ran to meet her half way, spinning her around in happyness as Max barked at their feet.
“Ariel!” He said quietly into her hair as he hugged her. “God, I missed you. is it odd that I missed you this much? I hope not” He told her quietly, before kissing her swiftly, letting it linger for a few moments.
“Your father wasn’t mad, was he?”
